An award, valued at $2,500, will be given annually to a full-time undergraduate student enrolled in Year Three or Four of any program at the University of Waterloo. Selection is based on academic achievement (minimum 80% cumulative average) combined with an essay (1,000 words maximum) describing the positive impact they have had on their community through involvement in volunteer activities related to community service. Interested students are to submit an application by November 1. This fund is made possible by a donation from the family of Barkat Ali, who was involved in community service and political engagement throughout his life.
