Jim Doherty NZ/C Actuarial Science Scholarship

Award description: 

Two scholarships, valued at up to $2,500 each, are awarded annually to outstanding undergraduate students enrolled in Year Three or Four of the Actuarial Science program in the Faculty of Mathematics. Eligible candidates must demonstrate their interest in achieving their FCIA designation by having passed at least two of the professional examinations set by the Society of Actuaries or the Casualty Actuarial Society. Additional criteria include marks achieved at the University of Waterloo and extracurricular involvement. Preference will be given to students who are engaged in activities outside of the University of Waterloo and contribute to the society in which they live. This fund is made possible by Jim Doherty to encourage and support students who are interested in pursuing a career as an Actuary.

Eligibility & selection criteria: 
  • minimum cumulative average of 80%
  • demonstrated interest in achieving the FCIA designation
  • must have passed at least two of the professional examinations set by the Society of Actuaries or the Casualty Actuarial Society
  • should have some work experience in, or related to actuarial science
  • preference will be given to students who are engaged in activities outside of the University of Waterloo and contribute to the society in which they live

Note: This scholarship may not be held in conjunction with another major Waterloo Scholarship. Recipients of other major Waterloo scholarships are not eligible.
