Two prizes, valued at up to $500 each, are presented annually; one is awarded to the best essay written on a literary question or subject and submitted in a 300- or 400-level English class, and one is awarded to the best written document that addresses a rhetoric and/or professional communication question or subject and submitted in a 300- or 400 level English class. These awards honour the memory of local journalist and Waterloo alumnus, Andrew James Dugan, BA '90.
