Should I use a Windows or Mac computer for school?

Both Windows and Mac computers are suitable for university school work.

Where should I store my files?

Please see the Microsoft 365 storage quotas and information article for data/file storage information for your University-provided OneDrive account. Students (undergraduate and non-employed Graduate) receive a maximum of 25GB of storage space. You can log in with your Waterloo credentials at http://portal.office.com/ to access the OneDrive app using your browser or download the OneDrive desktop app.

Why am I not getting emails from my professor(s)?

Your professors send emails to your 'username@uwaterloo.ca' email address. Make sure you are checking your school email, not your external non-UW email. Log in to your UW email at https://www.microsoft365.com/ and click on the Outlook icon to access Outlook Web App. You can also download all Microsoft 365 applications by clicking 'Install Office' in the top-right of the M365 Portal homepage.

What is Microsoft 365?

Microsoft 365 is Microsoft's online suite of applications (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams). All University of Waterloo students are provided a M365 account. To learn more, visit our Microsoft 365 website or see the IST Knowledge Base.

What is DUO 2FA?

Two-factor authentication (2FA) adds an extra layer of security to your University accounts by verifying your identity using a mobile device. Effective November 3, 2020, 2FA will be required by all University students and employees to access the 2FA supported services. To learn more, visit our Two-factor Authentication website.
