Spring Social Crossover Event

As a crossover effort between old and new executives, we will be going on another Brewery Tour, this time in Guelph! Come out to celebrate a great year with SWIGS, and welcome in the new executive team. We will be starting off the evening at Royal City Brewery in Guelph, and later retiring at the Heuther Hotel for food and pool.

Please join us for the Water Institute’s Research Symposium 2015. This year’s symposium will be held April 30, 2015 at the University of Waterloo, and will showcase the breadth of Waterloo’s water research and provide an opportunity for organizations and individuals to interact with researchers and students.The symposium will include a plenary on Water Security for First Nations in Canada with presentations from Irving Leblanc, Steve Hrudey, and Merrell-Ann Phare.

The Water Institute is pleased to host Dr. Sunita Narain, Director General of the Centre for Science and Environment, India, as the RBC 2015 Distinguished Lecturer.
Dr. Narain’s lecture is titled Challenges for Water Security in the Poor’s World: The agenda for research and policy to manage water scarcity, plenty, pollution and waste in an age of climate risk.

Water Institute WaterTalks Lecture with Dr. John Reynolds

While much of John’s current research focuses on connections between salmon and ecosystems in British Columbia, past studies have ranged from mating systems of arctic birds to conservation of Cambodian watersnakes. John has held a wide variety of scientific advisory positions, including co-chair of the sub-committee that assesses extinction risk of marine fishes for the Committee on the Status of Endangered Wildlife in Canada (COSEWIC), the body that advises the federal government on listing decisions for the Species at Risk Act.
