The Counselling Services Clinical Training Program is a well-rounded internship program that provides a diverse range of experiences to support your growth and development as counsellors!

Roles and Responsibilities
In this internship you’ll be responsible for:
- Providing individual counselling and co-facilitating groups and wellness workshops to students managing a wide range of issues commonly seen in outpatient settings
- Developing clinical skills related to conceptualizing client concerns and providing support and interventions using a client centered and anti-oppressive approach.
- Working within a multi-disciplinary team including intake specialists, crisis counsellors, social workers, psychotherapists, and our administrative staff.
- Participating in a collaborative learning environment including training seminars, professional development events, individual and group supervision and informal consultation with team members.
You’ll get to take part in:
- A comprehensive internship experience that includes providing brief therapy to clients and opportunities to co-facilitate therapy groups and wellness workshops.
- Typically, 3-4 clinical hours per day with a focus on individual counselling with students managing a broad range of concerns including relationship concerns or mental health challenges.
- A collaborative learning environment through regular individual and group supervision sessions and consultation with co-interns and Counselling Services staff.
- Participation in regular training seminars enhances interns’ knowledge and understanding of counselling practices to ensure they are prepared for their future careers.
You will learn:
- Growth and development within the context of a supportive team learning environment
- Solid clinical skills (for example, establishing empathic therapeutic relationships, interviewing, assessment, case formulation, intervention, etc.)
- Develop ability to use an anti-oppressive and client centered approach with a diverse group of clients.
Qualification and Skills
This placement proudly opens its doors to students in training from a wide variety of educational backgrounds (Master's in Counselling Psychology, Social Work, and other counselling/psychology/psychotherapy-related disciplines). We have found this diversity provides rich learning experiences for our students in training and our team.
To be eligible for this position, you must:
- Currently in/ or completed a master level Counselling, Psychotherapy, or Social work accredited program
- Completion of at least one theory course in counselling
- Completion of a practical counselling skills course (or equivalent experience)
- ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) would be an asset
Additional consideration:
- A demonstrated interest in working with youth and young adults in a clinical capacity
- Available to work 3 days a week for the duration of internship placement
- Available for an eight-month placement (Beginning of September to the end of April)
- Previous work or volunteer experience in the mental health field is helpful
- Comfort level with recording via webcam for supervisors to listen and provide clinical feedback
- Interest in providing walk-in sessions or single session therapy to clients
- Some evening hours may be required
