Expand your knowledge – and your possibilities – within the global air transport system.
Aviation is transforming, and so are aviation careers. WISA offers self-paced professional development courses designed to help learners strengthen their understanding of the global air transport sector and the critical importance of sustainability and decarbonization in shaping its future.
These courses are designed for both established aviation professionals and those who are new to the industry. Together, they provide a strong foundation in international aviation, sustainability, and climate-related challenges and solutions.
Looking for Fundamentals of International Aviation through ICAO?
FoIA is also available through a separate ICAO micro-credential pathway, developed through a long-standing partnership between the University of Waterloo and ICAO that has supported global aviation education since 2017. That pathway is offered separately from the WISA course route and is not eligible toward the International Aviation Sustainability Certification (IASC). Since its launch, the programme has supported more than 7,000 learners in 141 countries, with an average learner rating of 4.75/5 for the micro-credentials.
Fundamentals of International Aviation through WISA
Fundamentals of International Aviation is designed to build or deepen your knowledge of the global air transport system at a time of rapid change and emerging challenges.
Through 10 self-paced eLearning modules, you’ll gain a comprehensive understanding of the various roles and activities performed across the entire air transport sector, from air law to navigation to safety and beyond. By the end of the course, you’ll have a broad awareness of how different people and organizations work together to achieve a safe, reliable, and efficient air transport system.
This course forms part of WISA’s three-course pathway toward the International Aviation Sustainability Certification (IASC).

Aviation Sustainability
As environmental concerns, labour shortages, and technological innovation transform global air transport, it is clear that sustainability is more than a buzzword. It is the future of aviation, a future where flight connects people, employs communities, and minimizes ecological impacts. Creating that future requires ongoing evolution. So how do we get there?
In this course, you’ll gain a comprehensive understanding of the key sustainability issues, environmental, social, and economic, that are shaping aviation now and into the future. You’ll build awareness of how every aviation job, including yours, is a sustainability job, and how we can all work together to build a thriving air transport sector.
This course forms part of WISA’s three-course pathway toward the International Aviation Sustainability Certification (IASC).

Aviation and Climate Change
From extreme weather to biodiversity loss, the effects of climate change are being felt around the globe. As our sector contributes to greenhouse gas emissions and other environmental challenges, aviation has a significant role to play in mitigating these negative impacts.
While the path ahead is uncertain, it is also full of opportunities for innovation and collaboration as we reimagine traditional approaches to air transport. In this course, you’ll engage with the key climate issues facing aviation today and into the future. You’ll discover solutions across the industry, from sustainable fuels to electric aircraft to climate policy, and explore how to promote a climate-safe future.

International Aviation Sustainability Certification
Successfully complete WISA’s three-course eLearning pathway, Fundamentals of International Aviation, Aviation Sustainability, and Aviation and Climate Change, to earn the International Aviation Sustainability Certification (IASC).
These courses are online, self-paced professional development offerings delivered through WISA’s learning management system. Learners who successfully complete a course’s final exam will earn an electronic Certificate of Completion. Learners who successfully complete all three WISA courses will earn the International Aviation Sustainability Certification.
Please note that the ICAO FoIA micro-credential pathway is separate from the WISA certification route and does not count toward the IASC.
WISA courses may be completed individually, but the recommended WISA pathway is the full three-course certification route.
