Director, Vibrations and Energy Harvesting Laboratory

Associate professor, PEng

Armaghan Salehian is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering at the University of Waterloo. Professor Salehian’s research interests and expertise include structural dynamics and vibrations and applications of smart materials for energy harvesting, sensing, and actuation. She has also performed extensive modelling and experimental research on wrinkle modelling, flatness control, and vibrations modelling of space membranes and inflatable/deployable space structures. She has collaborated with Lockheed Martin, and the United States Air Force Office of Scientific Research, and has located funding from various agencies such as the Ontario Centres of Excellence, and the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada.

  • 2008, Doctorate, Mechanical Engineering, space structures, Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University
  • 2003, Master's, Mechanical Engineering, Worcester Polytechnic Institute
  • 2000, Master's, Mechanical Engineering, University of Tehran
  • 1997, Bachelor's, Mechanical Engineering, Sharif University of Technology

Graduate Supervision: Dr. Salehian supervises graduate students within masters and doctoral programs in Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering. Her students perform research on structural dynamics, vibrations, and applications of smart materials. She has also been extensively hosting and supervising students at both PhD and Master’s levels from several tier-one institutions in Europe through exchange program at UW.
