Associate Professor | School of Pharmacy, Faculty of Science

Prof. Beazely received his PhD in molecular pharmacology in 2004 after completing his pharmacy degree in 2000. His clinical research includes the evaluation of undergraduate pharmacy education with respect to substance use and ongoing educational tool development for practicing health professionals. He is interested in assessing interventions by community pharmacists aimed at reducing harms associated with substance use and understanding the intersection between drug use and ongoing pharmaceutical care. In the lab, the The Beazely group interested in basic mechanisms of GPCR and growth factor signaling in neurons, and how these classes of receptors regulate ion channel signaling. Specifically, we focus on the interactions between 5-HT and dopamine receptors, platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) receptors and TrkB, and NMDA receptors.

Graduate Supervision:

Prof. Beazely supervises Master’s and PhD graduate students in the School of Pharmacy and the Department of Biology. His students are actively working on projects involving increasing naloxone distribution in pharmacies, the role of growth factors and other signaling pathways in Alzheimer’s disease, and the effects of lithium isotopes on neuronal signaling.
