illustration of Jean Becker with plant design elementsMeet Jean Becker, UWaterloo’s first director of Indigenous initiatives, in conversation with Lori Campbell, director of the Waterloo Indigenous Student Centre. Over many years in the Waterloo region, Jean has built reciprocal and respectful relationships between post-secondary institutions and First Nations, Métis, and Inuit communities. We are now very fortunate to have her back on campus to guide our university’s Indigenous initiatives and effective response to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's calls to action. Jean is Inuk and a member of the Nunatsiavut Territory of Labrador.

The Indigenous Speakers Series is co-presented by the Waterloo Indigenous Student Centre, the Faculty of Arts, the Department of History, and the Department of Communication Arts. The Series highlights the voices of Indigenous artists, writers, activists, and leaders from across Turtle Island, offering UWaterloo students, faculty and staff opportunities to learn from, understand, and engage with Indigenous issues.
