The UWCISA Predictive Analytics Competition sponsored by ISACA Toronto Chapter is back for its third year. This year, 392 second-year students, organized into 77 teams, will showcase their analytical skill and innovative thinking.  This year, 392 second-year students, organized into 77 teams, have demonstrated their analytical skills and innovative thinking.  The four finalist teams will gather on Friday, August 30, 2024, to present their solutions to a compelling business challenge.

The explosion or interest in generative AI (GenAI) such as ChatGPT has created a need for prompt engineering expertise to optimize practitioners’ interactions with GenAI and enable them to take advantage of the many powerful capabilities of this technology in all areas of their practice. However, the prompt engineering skills are still not widely covered. This professional development workshop is an opportunity to learn about prompt engineering to meet a variety of objectives.

The 14th Biennial Symposium on Information Integrity and Information Systems Assurance for Sustainability announces its Symposium and Call for Papers. The deadline to submit your paper is June 1, 2025. Research papers and panels are invited from academe and practice addressing IS/IT topics related to risk, control, and assurance, with preference given to papers and panels on such topics affecting sustainability reporting and disclosure.

The 4th annual interactive dashboard competition, co-sponsored by UWCISA and the ISACA Toronto Chapter will be held on Zoom December 15th, 10:30 AM.

The competition is a platform for first-year SAF students to demonstrate their exceptional skills in data analytics with the top performing team receiving a $1000 prize sponsored by the ISACA Toronto Chapter.

Frank Yam elected UWCISA Board Chair

Dr. Efrim Boritz is pleased to announce that Frank Yam has been elected as Board Chair of UWCISA. Mr. Yam, a Waterloo alumnus, has had an illustrious multi-decade career in Cybersecurity, IT governance, Assurance and innovation. The Institute of Internal Auditors has renewed the University of Waterloo in the Internal Auditing Education Partnership (IAEP) program for the 2023-2028 period. The IAEP program was developed to respond to the growing interest in internal audit education at institutions of higher learning and recognizes institutions that demonstrate ongoing leadership in internal audit education. The global Institute of Internal Auditors’ renewal of its affiliation with the University of Waterloo signifies that the curricula developed prepare students with the skills and knowledge to help them conduct internal audits as well as provide a foundation to begin preparing for the Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) examination. Waterloo joins a select group of over 50 other distinguished institutions world-wide participating in the program.

The 3rd Interactive Business Dashboard Competition

The 3rd annual interactive dashboard competition, co-sponsored by UW-CISA and the ISACA Toronto Chapter started with 91 teams (all 452 AFM112 students). 24 teams advanced to the second round. During the final round of the competition Dec 15th the top five teams will present their dashboard to a panel of industry and academic experts. The top performing team will receive the $1000 prize sponsored by the ISACA Toronto Chapter.
