Canadian Water Network Knowledge Mobilization training program

We are pleased to announce that the Canadian Water Network (CWN) has developed a Knowledge Mobilization (KM) training program, and will be offering that program to Water Institute members in a 1-day workshop. 

The workshop will be held on May 25 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the Waterloo main campus, and will consist of four training modules which are detailed below.

Water Institute funding quenches thirst for interdisciplinary research

Global water issues are becoming increasingly complex and often require a collaborative approach across a breadth of disciplines. To stimulate interdisciplinary water research, on Monday, May 9 the University of Waterloo’s Water Institute announced it had awarded six teams a combined total of $112,000 during its most recent winter Seed Grants Program application round.

Waterloo students take first place at World Water Day poster competition

The Water Institute congratulates the Waterloo students who took first place, on March 22, in four out of five categories in the World Water Day research conference poster competition.

Each March, the United Nations celebrates World Water Day. This year, Waterloo celebrated the occasion by hosting its seventh annual water research conference, organized by the Water Institute and Laurier's Institute for Water Science.

Water Institute Seminar: Priyanka Jamwal

The Water Institute is pleased to host a seminar by the second of the RBC Fellows visiting Waterloo this term. Dr. Priyanka Jamwal, Fellow, Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and the Environment (ATREE), Bangalore, India, will deliver a seminar titled Rethinking the framework for regulating water quality in urbanizing watersheds.

Call for Papers - Special Issue, Journal of Hydrology

There is a Call for Papers for a Special Issue of the Journal of Hydrology on the topic of Water in megacities: new risks, new solutions. The issue will include scholarly contributions that:
  • analyze the consequences for water resources and water management of urban growth and climate change, and
  • propose innovative solutions for urban water systems in a globally changing environment.

Public Discussion Featuring Ellen Schwartzel

An open discussion about Citizen Rights under the Environmental Bill of Rights is being offered by SaveOurWater.ca and the Wellington Water Watchers. The discussion will feature Ellen Schwartzel, Deputy Environmental Commissioner of Ontario. The discussions will be in the context of Ontario's water permit process.
