Battery Energy Storage System Participation in Wholesale Electricity Markets: Opportunities, Practices, and Challenges

Title:

Battery Energy Storage System Participation in Wholesale Electricity Markets: Opportunities, Practices, and Challenges

Abstract:

In recent years, there has been a significant deployment of battery energy storage systems (BESSs) in the electricity grids around the world. The important characteristics of BESS such as ability to act both as generation and load, fast response time, high ramp rate etc. makes them promising options for the system operators to reduce the peak demand, facilitate renewable energy integration etc. This webinar will present the opportunities and the current practices for BESS to participate in wholesale electricity markets of the US and Canada. Also, will discuss the challenges the independent system operators (ISOs) and the BESS owners should consider associated with BESS market participation.
