On March 8, 2021, prof. Krzysztof Czarnecki gave an invited lecture titled "Designing & Testing Autonomous Vehicles: What Engineers are Doing" as part of the lecture series at the Electrical & Computer Engineering department at the University of Waterloo. The video is available on YouTube.

Abstract

Prof. Krzysztof Czarnecki participated in an expert panel on connected and autonomous vehicles and shared mobility organized by the Council of Canadian Academies and sponsored by Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (ISED).

The grand opening of the new Autonomous Vehicle Research & Intelligence Laboratory (AVRIL) took place on Tue, Feb 14, 2020, with over 60 guests, including the federal and provincial ministers, MPPs, and the president of the University of Waterloo. AVRIL is now the new home of the UW Moose as well as many other projects.

The article touches upon our research on autonomous vehicle safety testing project with AAA Northern California, Nevada & Utah, measuring anxiety of autonomous vehicle passengers, and ensuring safety on AI onboard autonomous vehicles.

Public Autonomoose Demo Day

On October 31, the Autonomoose team hosted a public demo day. During the day, we gave autonomous rides to over 100 participants. For more information about the event, visit Public Autonomoose Demo Day Eventbrite page.

During the demonstration, we showcased static obstacle avoidance, dynamic object detection, localization on the map, and decision making, and left-turn at an all-way-stop intersection with oncoming traffic (the moose had to stop and yield to the oncoming car).
