Now hiring Graduate Fellows!

The Writing and Communication Centre is now hiring for two Writing and Communication Graduate Fellows (Strategic Projects) positions! The Writing and Communication Graduate Fellows (Strategic Projects) support the information-gathering and research analysis stages of a proposal for enhanced communication support for graduate students that integrates anti-racist approaches.

The Writing and Communication Centre (WCC) has just released a new series of five resources that guide students on whether and how to use GenAI in their writing processes.

What are English Conversation Circles? A few months ago, I had no idea, but when I started working at the Writing and Communication Centre (WCC) one of my roles was to facilitate the English Conversation Circles (ECC) program. I assumed ECC would be a program that Individuals used to strengthen their English conversation skills, and I was excited to be a part of this support team. Once I started working on the program, I learned quickly that ECC is a support system for international students here at UW.

Want more confidence in English? Join the English Conversation Circles (ECC) to practice your English conversation skills and learn more about life in Canada with other international students! Our weekly meetings are open to undergraduate and graduate students. Each meeting offers a friendly and supportive environment to practice speaking English and share our experiences.

When: Wednesdays and Thursdays from 3:00 - 4:30 p.m.

Where: SCH 228F

Dates: September 27 to November 9, 2023

It is with great pleasure that we welcome Julie Anne Nord to our team as the new Writing and Communication Advisor for our Undergraduate Programs. With her impressive background in teaching and writing, we are excited to see her take on this new role.

Julie's passion for teaching and writing began early in her life, and she has since developed her skills through a variety of experiences and training. Her work as a Lead Writing Fellow and volunteer writing tutor, as well as her experience as a Graduate Teaching Assistant and private music instructor, make her an excellent fit for this role. We are confident that her expertise will greatly benefit our undergraduate students.

Why is creativity so elusive? We see artists and poets and marvel agape at their powers of creation, but in truth creativity is a learned thing – a practice of insight and introspection. You too have the potential to produce art almost as good as the greats, if only you look in the right places. It doesn’t matter that no one’s listening.

The Writing Centre and the Book Store invite you to attend a book launch and reception for Performing Antiracist Pedagogy in Rhetoric, Writing, and Communication, edited by Dr. Frankie Condon (English Language and Literature) and Dr. Vershawn Young (Drama and Speech Communication).

Please join us for a discussion and refreshments.
