Graduate and Postdoctoral Programs

Sinem's English language teaching (ELT) journey began at a teacher training high school and culminated in her Ph.D. in teaching. With nearly 15 years of experience, she has taught and conducted research at universities in Ireland, Turkey, and Canada.

She holds a Ph.D. focusing on International Students’ Culture Shock, Second Language Pragmalinguistic Change, and Social Identity Relations, an M.A. in ELT specializing in reflective teaching, and a B.Ed. in Foreign Language Education.

After arriving in Canada, Sinem joined Renison University College, English Language Institute as an instructor, teaching academic skills courses, conducting research, and supporting international students as they adapt to university life academically.

Sinem excels in communicating complex ideas and collaborating with diverse communities. She is fluent in English and Turkish.

Although their university education has been focused on visual art, Stephanie is an advocate for students who experience discrimination and seeks to form a compassionate and open environment conducive to empowered learning.

Elise Vist is a PhD Candidate in the Department of English Language and Literature at the University of Waterloo.

Jane has over 10 years experience as a writing and communication advisor, and over 15 years experience in industry – specifically in engineering, operations, and logistics. Jane has been an instructor at the University of Waterloo and at various local colleges, and is a Waterloo grad herself.

Elisabeth is an experienced writing instructor with a demonstrated history of teaching scientific writing at the university level. She holds a MSc. in Ecology and Evolution from the University of Western Ontario, and her Masters in Geographic Information Sciences from the University of Calgary.

Nadine has worked at the Writing and Communication Centre since 2015, where she supports graduate students, postdocs and faculty throughout all stages of the writing process.
