IDPD 2023 Theme

The theme of the 2023 International Day of Persons with Disabilities is: "United in action to rescue and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for, with and by persons with disabilities". The 17 SDGs are a blueprint for how people and the planet can thrive, now and into the future. The integration of disabled persons into every aspect of political, social, economic and cultural life is vital to achieve these goals. In particular, disability is referenced in the SDGs related to quality education (SDG 4), growth and employment (SDG 8), reducing inequalities (SDG 10), accessibility and sustainability of communities (SDG 11), as well as the processes for data collection and monitoring (SDG 17).

Explore the UN Flagship Report on Disability and Sustainable Development Goals’ series of infographics on connections between each SDG and working for, with, and by persons with disabilities.

When striving to achieve the SDGs on campus, commitments to consulting and working with disabled persons to improve accessibility continue to provide valuable insights, necessary perspectives, and new avenues for innovation.
