The former President of Schneider Foods received an honorary Doctor of Laws degree in 1995 for his long-standing support of the university.
"My business career.began in the early 1950s at about the same time as the University of Waterloo was being created," he says. "I was fortunate to be a witness to this creation and to be mentored in my business career by some of the visionary men who established it."
Murray's generous scholarships for doctoral students in the applied health sciences faculty continue to deepen knowledge about Alzheimer's disease. MAREP is a tenant in the recently created Research Institute for Aging, which was founded by Ronald Schlegel, a fellow award recipient.
In 2001, Murray was appointed a member of the Order of Canada for his involvement and support of many community organizations, including the Universities of Waterloo and Guelph, the Homewood Corporation, the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony and the Kitchener-Waterloo Community Foundation. He has also received a Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Medal for his community service. Now retired, Ken is regarded as one of this area's most generous philanthropists.
