Mike Garvey (BA '69)

Mike Garvey (BA '69) has had a fascinating career that has taken him to London, England, the Middle East, and Cuba. However, throughout the years, he has always maintained his role as a University of Waterloo ambassador.

Garvey was the founding president of the Waterloo Accounting Alumni Association and the National Alumni Council. He is past chair of the University of Waterloo's Board of Governors and is currently involved in the Capital Campaign Committee of the School of Accountancy. He was a speaker on behalf of alumni for many years and in 2004 was elected as a fellow of the School of Accountancy.

After graduating, Garvey joined Price Waterhouse in Toronto. He did an international exchange in London, England in 1976 and 1978, and became an audit partner in 1982. He also developed and managed the Price Waterhouse practice in Cuba in 1995. In 1985, he became a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario. Garvey retired from PricewaterhouseCoopers in 2006.

Garvey has chaired several educational committees at the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario. He also has chaired boards at the Donwood Institute and the Michener Institute of Applied Health Sciences. He was a founding member of the board of trustees for the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health.
