Welcome to the Alumni Relations blog!

Now you’re probably wondering why the Office of Alumni Relations would need, or want, to start a blog. Good question.  The answer is simply because on top of all the fabulous events we host around the world, we have a ton of neat things to share with you.

Whether we’re taking you behind the scenes at convocation or Reunion, sharing some fun university trivia, or posting the latest pictures from a networking event, this blog will give us a chance to keep you up-to-date on all things of interest to Waterloo grads.

So make sure to follow us and check back soon for new posts. In the meantime, meet the alumni team below and get to know some of the authors of upcoming posts.

Hi, I’m Jason Coolman, Associate Vice-President.

I’m a father of three (a daughter and twin boys). When not spending time with family, I’m an avid sports fan who plays soccer, golf and hockey.  If asked, my friends would describe me as a politics nut and a car buff (believe it or not, I owned 60 cars by the age 23). I love my life and have an awesome job!

Hi, I’m Alison Boyd, Associate Director, Alumni Relations

Alumni Relations is an exciting place to work, we get to offer you, our amazing alumni, exciting programs, opportunities to meet each other and talk about how Waterloo has impacted your life.

When I’m not at work, I enjoy volunteering in my community, photography and travelling around the world, most recently in Hawai’i with my partner, Andrew.

Hello blog readers! Patricia Duguay here, Senior Alumni Officer in charge of ‘Outreach’.

I have the enviable job of working with our alumni to develop meaningful events and – you guessed it - outreach (i.e. parties).  I pull in our partners in the faculties plus folks from Co-op and Recruitment to really build events that showcase the Waterloo Way.

My family has a combined total of SIX degrees from Waterloo…this place is in our blood!

i, I am Cynthia Breen, the Alumni Officer of Digital Initiatives.

I am a rare non-alumnus of UWaterloo around here, having graduated from Guelph-Humber and now attending McMaster.  Although the more I learn about Waterloo, the more I wish I went here.

I am a mom to an active little boy, Bryson, and our fur baby, a yellow lab named Wrigley.

Between them and my husband Shane, we stay pretty busy and enjoy being involved in our community.

dana and husband at parkHi, I am Dana Ciak, Alumni Officer, Communications and Marketing. I have the privilege of working with you, our outstanding alumni each and every day, writing about the amazing things you are all doing after graduation. Quite arguably, the best job in the world!

My husband and I are both proud Waterloo alumni and love to travel and spend time in our new home.

I would love to hear from you and the great things you are doing so send me an email anytime!

lisa
Hi, my name is Lisa, and I am the alumni officer, of all things adorable.

I am a Waterloo grad and love all things Waterloo, including chasing geese, barking at squirrels and giving the doggy salute to all trees.

When I am not saving the world in my superwoman costume I enjoy cuddles and treats.

Don't forget to spay and neuter your pets.

Hi! I’m Emily, the Alumni Officer, Students and Young Alumni.

I’m a proud alumna and a champion of the ‘Waterloo way’, which is all about finding your passion and doing things differently. I’m kept a busy member of the alumni team by creating great opportunities to engage and support Waterloo’s most recent graduates.

I’m creative and crafty – sewing, finding new uses for vintage pieces, and DIY home improvements are my outlets.

I’m happily married to my university sweetheart and a mom to a spoiled Brittany spaniel named Cash.

erica
Hi blog readers!  My name is Erica and I am the International Alumni Officer.

I have the pleasure of working with our alumni around the world; hosting events, recruiting future Waterloo students and finding exciting international opportunities for our current students.  I am part of both the Alumni Relations team and the Waterloo International team and you can find me back and forth between Needles Hall and PAS.

Outside of work, I am a mom of two amazing girls that keep me very busy!  We love being outside, building forts and having dance parties.  I also watch a lot of sports, volunteer whenever I can and love to get out on the water fishing whenever I can.

Hello Everyone! I’m Alex Farley, the Programs Assistant in Alumni Relations.

I am new to the team, but have really enjoyed being a part of the Alumni experience in helping with events all around the world and locally! As a new Alumni myself, I am a big advocate for all things UW and my favorite part of the job is hearing about all the different ways people made Waterloo their own.

In my spare time I try to travel as much as possible! Everywhere is on my bucket list, and I love learning about different cultures.  As well I enjoy spending time with friends and family.

kaitlin
Hi there! I’m Kaitlin O’Brien, Communications and Marketing Assistant.

I'm very excited to learn about and share the wonderful stories of perseverance and success from our talented alumni here at Waterloo!

I love to try my hand at many different things, so in my spare time I enjoy taking on the wheel in my pottery classes. I participate in cake decorating classes because I love to create and share fancy cakes on special occasions.

I enjoy jogging, which has helped me get to discover all the neat and interesting places within Waterloo.

Hi, I’m Yvonne Gostel.

yvonne

I’ve been working in the Alumni Office for over 20 years!  When I’m not at work I am either walking my dog Simba or I’m  out riding my motorbike with my sons.

Needless to say I do enjoy my job, but love my spare time too!
