Black and gold forever
The Fun Run is one of the longest-standing traditions at the University of Waterloo. We invite alumni and all community members to participate in our annual Fun Run on Saturday, September 28, 2019. This event is for all ages and ability levels. Costumes are encouraged!
8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. | AHS Expansion Building
The run takes place on the University of Waterloo’s Ring Road and is open to all ages across the entire community. The Run will once again feature Bib Tag technology and results will be posted online as part of an official race in the running community.
- Choose between 2.5 km OR 5 km run, jog, or walk around Ring Road
- Bib tag timing available for 5 km run via Chip Time Results
- Light refreshments will be provided
Awards and Warrior Picnic - BBQ lunch available for purchase
The first 400 racers receive a 2019 Fun Run T-Shirt. Shirt sizes are only guaranteed until Friday, August 23.

This year $3.00 from every entry fee will go toward, a one-to-one student peer support program offered by the Waterloo Undergraduate Student Association (formerly Feds) in consultation with Campus Wellness.
Check-in and registration will take place at the AHS Expansion Building on Saturday, September 28. If you are pre-registered, you can pick up your race kit on Friday, September 27 from 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Prizes and costumes
Prizes will be awarded to top 5 km participants and best costumes. You can also wear your favourite active gear.
11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the BMH Green
Join us after your run for a BBQ lunch, beer tent, live entertainment and activities for the whole family. UWaterloo’s own Concrete Toboggan student team will be onsite selling their famous âBoggan Burgers with proceeds going directly to the team. Our beer tent will feature selections from Waterloo Brewing â available for purchase for those who are 19+. Enjoy live music, face painting, kids' activities, a photo booth and more.
No cost to register. Food and drinks will be for sale at the event. Cash sales only for food and drinks.
Unless there is lightening or other extreme weather conditions, the race runs rains or shine! The post-race festivities however will be moved from BMH Green in to the AHS Expansion Building.
Complimentary Alumni Black Gold Day parking will be available on Saturday, September 28 in lots L, M, N, R, and X.
Personal items and storage
We will provide a locked and volunteer supervised space in AHS Expansion Building, Room 2677 for race participants to leave their belongings.
2019 Fun Run T-Shirts
The first 400 racers to register online will receive a 2019 Fun Run race T-shirt. Note: Your T-shirt size will be guaranteed up until August 23, 2019. If you registered after this date, you may not receive the T-shirt size you requested. Thank you for understanding.
Registering on race day
Advance registration closes on Wednesday, September 25 at 11:59 p.m. Race day registration will be open from 8:00 a.m. â 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 28. Please arrive early to register on the day of the race as space will be limited.
Please note that entry fees increase on race day so be sure to register in advance! Also, if you are registering on race day please be aware that there will be no debit or cash sales â credit cards only.
First aid responders will be on-site to provide assistance in emergency situations requiring First Aid and CPR.
Will there be food and drinks?
Light refreshments like coffee, tea, pastries, fruit, granola bars, etc. will be provided to all runners. After the race there will be burgers, veggie burgers, hot dogs and soft drinks for sale in support of the Concrete Toboggan team at UWaterloo.
Can I bring my own food and drinks?
Absolutely. You can bring your own food and drinks with the exception of glass bottles and alcoholic drinks.
Can I pick up my race-kit before the race?
Race-kit pick-ups will be available on Friday, September 27, 2019 from 4:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. in AHS Expansion Building Room 1689.
Bikes, rollerblades, strollers
Bicycles and rollerblades are not permitted on the race route. Children’s scooters and strollers are allowed.
Can I bring my dog?
While we don't actively encourage anyone to bring their dog to this event any dogs that are running with their owners must be on a leash at all times and are the full responsibility of the owner. No retractable leashes allowed.
