With the passing of October’s 109th convocation ceremonies, the University of Waterloo was pleased to welcome its newest members to the alumni club. Convocation is time that reminds all alumni to stay connected to the University of Waterloo.

There are many ways alumni can stay connected and access services and perks that support your success and even encourage you to have a bit of fun along the way. Alumni can attend an event organized by the University or a local chapter of volunteers, become a global ambassador, or read the monthly e-newsletter, @UWaterloo. Really, the opportunities are endless!

Third-year environment student and program co-ordinator for Co-op Connection, Mounir El-Choueiri, says Co-op Connection offers another way for alumni living in Toronto, Ottawa, Calgary, and Vancouver to stay connected while supporting current Waterloo students.

Mounir writes:

Moving to a new city, leaving friends behind, or starting a new job are just a few things that can add to the stress and frustration a co-op student could feel when entering a new work term.

The Federation of Students has launched Co-op Connection, a new service that aims to connect UWaterloo students to each other. To start, Co-op Connection is launching in four cities – Toronto, Ottawa, Calgary and Vancouver. Each city will have student mentors there to organize events, help subsidize event costs through funding provided to them, and manage the Facebook groups for each city.

You might be thinking, “What does this have to do with me? I’ve already graduated!”

We’re looking for alumni who are interested in acting as mentors to current undergraduate students working in your city.  The role of a mentor could mean anything from attending an event to giving tips on must-see attractions in the city to answering program-specific questions that students might have.

If this is something you are interested in, please get in touch with Co-op Connection as soon as possible.

The best way to reach the service is at the contact information below.
