Heterotheca sessiliflora var. sanjacintensis Semple is similar in leaf margin traits to the var. fastigiata but has fewer, longer hairs and more glands on its leaves (see var. fastigiata for line drawings). It occurs in the San Jacinto Mts. of southern California.
