Heterotheca sessiliflora var. fastigiata

Heterotheca sessiliflora var. fastigiata (Greene) Semple is the typical variety of subsp. fastigiata.  Its upper stem leaves are usually whitish due to the density of short strigose hairs. It occurs in the San Gabriel, San Bernardino and Santa Monica Mts. at low to moderately high elevations. It is diploid (2n=18).

Nesom (1997) accepted the combination proposed by Semple for the taxon.
