Ratio of students to educators in public schools

What it measures

Dimension: Basic educational knowledge and skills

This indicator provides information on class sizes by reporting the ratio of students to educators in Canadian classrooms. Since 1994, this ratio has improved by nearly 40%, indicating that there are far fewer students per educator today than two decades ago.

Why this matters

Understanding this ratio gives us an idea of how much time educators may have to spend with each student. Smaller ratios mean that educators have more time to build relationships with students in order to meet the unique needs of each individual child in their classroom.
