Percentage of Canadians with a regular medical doctor

What it measures

Dimension: Health care

This indicator represents the percentage of the population aged 15 and over who report having regular access to a family doctor. Having a regular health care provider and continuity of care provides some indication of ongoing, patient-centered care. This type of care is generally more effective and less costly than episodic care.

Why this matters

This indicator is important to understanding the health of a population as it is a good measure of the capacity and appropriateness of the current primary health care system.
