Viable Metal Reserves Index

What it measures

Dimension: Non-renewable resources

This indicator looks at the stock of specific metals found in Canadian mines. These metals include copper, nickel, lead, zinc, gold, molybdenum, and silver, all measured in thousands of tonnes. The index accounts for current reserves of these metals, as well as depletions (metal extracted) and additions (discovery of new deposits) to the reserve.

Why this matters

Metal resources such as these are important to our economy and to our standard of living as they contribute to many goods and services that contribute to quality of life in Canada.
