What it measures
Dimension: Participation
This indicator shows the amount of time that people spend in social leisure activities (e.g., going out for coffee with a friend or visiting someone at their home). In 2014, Canadians reported that about 13% of their time was spent in social leisure – down from a high of 16% reported in 1998.
Why this matters
Spending time with others by participating in social leisure activities is linked to social inclusion and a stronger sense of belonging. These especially relevant for better mental health.
