CIW Engagement
We were pleased to partner with the Community Foundation for Kingston and Area (CFKA) to conduct a CIW Community Wellbeing Survey in 2013.
The initial report, Kingston Community Wellbeing Survey Report 1, presents preliminary findings from the residents’ responses to all of the questions based on each of the eight CIW domains. The data were weighted to ensure that results are representative geographically within the KFL&A and that the sex and age distribution matched the profile for KFL&A based on the 2011 Census.
The second report, Kingston Community Wellbeing Survey Report 2, provides a more in-depth look at the results of the survey. In discussion with CFKA, three factors were selected as focal lenses for further analysis of the survey results: (1) annual household income: under $40,000 per year, $40,000 to $99,999 per year, and $100,000 and greater per year; (2) age: 18 to 44 years of age, 45 to 64 years of age, and 65 years of age and older; and (3) geographic area: City of Kingston, County of Lennox and Addington (including Greater Napanee), and County of Frontenac.
In consideration of Ontario’s municipal elections in the fall of 2014, CFKA expressed an interest in acquiring a better understanding of how residents’ level of civic engagement was linked to their wellbeing. In this report, the CIW dug deeper into the 2013 survey results to identify segments of the population that were either more or less likely to be civically engaged. The report concludes with a summary of key findings and suggestions of how they can be used at the community level to increase wellbeing.
In order to build a trend line of wellbeing data over time, it is hoped that a collaborative of interested organizations in the Kingston area will engage the CIW to survey a random sample of households every five years.
