Percentage of population with an absence of health or activity-based limitations

Dimension: Functional Health

This indicator reports the percentage of Canadians who have no activity limitations as a result of physical or mental health conditions. For this indicator, questions focused on limitations to activities of daily living such as home, school, or work.  According to Statistics Canada, about 14% of Canadians over age 15 and nearly half of seniors (age 65+) report activity limitation due to disability.

Why this matters

The proportion of a population who experiences no activity limitations is an indicator of physical health within that population. As well, as activity limitation can be challenging and sometimes isolating experience for individuals and their caregivers. Low levels of activity limitation are a positive indicator of mental health within a population.
