Dr Baltezar is a professor in Materials Science and Engineering Department, Autonomous University of Zacatecas, Mexico. The topic of his talk was “Tempered Martensite Islands Characterization in GMAW of Automotive DP980 steel”.

He discussed a model for predicting the hardness of DP980 steel after subjecting to various heat treating cycles.

Dr. Remes is an assistant professor in Marine Technology, Department of Applied Mechanics, School of Engineering, Alato University, Finland. His talk was centered on the analyses of the performance of large steel structures fabricated from new steels operating in marine environments. Emphases was placed on fatigue and fracture modeling, and notch sensitivity of welded high strength steel marine structures.

The Centre for Advanced Materials Joining (CAMJ) enjoyed another rousing good time as they engaged in merry and mirth while feasting on delights from the Orient at Mandarin. The bonds created during these CAMJ social events have proven to be stronger than any created by the joining processes explored in their research.

The Centre for Advanced Materials Joining hosted leading researchers from 3 continents for a one-day workshop on Advanced Materials Joining and Processing as they presented their newest breakthroughs in research. 16 interesting talks were given by invited speakers from 9 institutions focusing on 3 areas including: advanced materials joining, advanced materials processing, nanojoining and nanomanufacturing.

The director of the Centre Advanced Materials Joining (CAMJ), Professor Y. Norman Zhou has kindly hosted the annual CAMJ barbeque. The group took advantage of the downtime to share stories and fun not necesarily related to their research.

The Centre Advanced for Advanced Materials builds team spirit as they compete in the university intramural soccer league. Taking time to exercise and participate in team sports will help them reach their research GOOOOALS!

The Centre for Advanced Materials Joining (CAMJ) was treated to its annual holiday lunch at the Mandarin. Happy conversations were abound between students, professors and research partners. As is tradition with large holiday meals, the CAMJ fell asleep shortly after the below picture was taken, with visions of laser beams and joining methods dancing in their heads.
