Congratulations to the Centre for Advanced Materials Joining members Matthew Daly, Andrew Pequegnat, Ibraheem Khan, and Professor Norman Zhou for winning the "Best Student Paper Competition" at the ASME 2011 Conference (American Society of Mechanical Engineers) on Smart Materials, Adaptive Structures, and Intelligent Systems (SMASIS) hosted from September 18-21, 2011 in Scottsdale, Arizona. 

Professor Valeriy Kuznetsov from Kyiv Polytechnic Institute will be presenting a seminar on the works conducted at the Welding Faculty on the Kyiv campus. The seminar will take place August 2, 2011 at 9:30 am in the E5 3rd floor conference room (E5-3052). The seminar presentation will focus on the ongoing works relating to magnetic control of weld joints and surface engineering.

Professor Tillman, expert at law for Materials Technology from the Dortmund University of Technology in Germany will be holding a seminar on "Novel developments and applications of thermal spray for the automotive and tool industry". The seminar will be taking place Friday Nov. 20, 2009 from 9:30-10:30 in CPH 3602.

Agreement with Osaka University

An official Memorandum of Understanding has been signed beween the Graduate School of Engineering (on behalf of Global Center of Excellence program: Center of Excellence for Advanced Structural and Functional Materials Design), Osaka University, Osaka, Japan and the Centre for Advanced Materials Joining (CAMJ), University of Waterloo, Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, for a joint research agreement on Advanced Materials Joining at Macro, Micro and Nano Levels. The agreement covers:

Centre for Advanced Materials Joining is organizing a workshop on “Simulation driven optimization of welded structures” at room E3-2119 (9.00 AM to 12.00 PM). Professor John Goldak (a distinguished research professor at Carleton University) is going to present various issues on welding simulations (finite element analysis).
