Subject: Transit disruption possible May 1: plan ahead
Dear University community,
A potential Grand River Transit (GRT) labour disruption could begin on Friday, May 1.
If the strike happens, GRT and MobilityPLUS buses will not run, and customer service locations will be closed. ION trains will continue to operate. Please check the GRT service updates page for the most current information.
If you rely on public transit, plan for alternative transportation starting Friday. The University has several resources to help you navigate the disruption.
- Refer to walking and cycling routes for different ways to get to campus. Many walking and cycling routes connect to the ION train which will bring you to main campus or Kitchener campus.
- The orange Neuron e-scooters and e-bikes have returned to the Region. Download the Neuron app and within the app, refer to the “Ride more and pay less” section to save on frequent trips, and review the “ScootSafe Academy” section for riding credits.
- Consider carpooling with colleagues or friends:
- The Region of Waterloo’s TravelWise program offers carpool matching, helping you find a carpool partner. Register as soon as possible through TravelWise for employees or TravelWise for students and watch for new posts as the situation evolves.
- You can join the University of Waterloo Rideshare group on Facebook.
- Students can also find information and resources on the WUSA website.
We recognize that this disruption may create challenges for many members of our community. Instructors and managers are encouraged to take this into account if people request accommodations during the strike. Managers, please refer to our Flexible and Hybrid Working Guidelines.
We will share updates on University’s campus status page as information becomes available.
Supervisors, please post this notice for employees who do not have regular access to email.
