Renison hires new director of external relations

Cort Egan.Renison University College has announced that Cort Egan will be joining the organization as its new Director, External Relations and Communications, effective July 3, 2018.

Egan brings to this position almost three decades of senior leadership roles in both the private and public sector. Most recently, Egan spent ten years overseeing communications, evaluation and assessment, and stewardship within several departments at the University of Guelph.

In addition to holding both an Honours Baccalaureate in English Literature (St. Jerome’s University) and a Master’s degree in Rhetoric and Communication Design from the University of Waterloo, Egan has earned a Master’s in Leadership and a Certificate in Knowledge Mobilization, both from the University of Guelph.

Reporting directly to the President and Vice Chancellor, Dr. Wendy Fletcher, Egan will also participate as a member of Renison’s Executive Council, assisting in the planning, development, fulfillment and evaluation of College-wide priorities.

“While his professional and academic credentials are impressive,” said Professor Fletcher, who chaired the selection committee, “it was his shared values and vision with Renison that ultimately set him apart. Renison University College has a long-held commitment to social justice, reconciliation and authentic relationship building. Cort clearly articulated throughout the interview process that he not only shares these values, but that he is dedicated to growing and expanding their reach.”

WatIAM replacement begins today

The replacement of the identity management system known as WatIAM has been rescheduled to begin today at 4:30 p.m. and will run until Thursday, April 12 at 8:00 a.m. The WatIAM system will be down and unavailable to clients during the upgrade process.

Important notes:

  • Authentication services will remain available.
  • Identity management services will be unavailable for the duration of the outage, including new identity creation and changes to user information such as emails and passwords.
  • Identities in the current WatIAM system prior to the planned outage will have been provisioned already, including post-dated or future dated items during the outage period.
  • Dependent applications, such as myHRinfo, will continue to process new application accounts during the outage, however the new identity (and therefore user access) will not be provisioned until after the identity system change is complete. These new accounts will be queued and processed when the new service is available.
  • Critical requests for changes to user access can be directed to the IST Service Desk at helpdesk@uwaterloo.ca or ext. 44357.

Anyone with questions or concerns is invited to contact the IST Service Desk by sending an email to helpdesk@uwaterloo.ca or ext. 44357.

Notes as examinations begin

Today marks the beginning of the examination period, which runs until Tuesday, April 24. Online examinations take place on Friday, April 13 and Saturday, April 14 this term. The Library is operating under expanded exam hours and will continue to do so until April 24, and the Student Life Centre's Great Hall has been converted into study space for students who need a place to hit the books.

"The Library is working with the Ontario Council of University Libraries (OCUL) to develop a common platform for discovering scholarly resources and collections," says a note from the Library. "We want to understand how our users currently use the TRELLIS catalogue, so that we can assess how the new system will meet your needs, and identify any potential support needs to help users adjust to these changes."

"You can help us by participating in our 8-question survey about using the Library catalogue."

A protective engineering walkway is being installed outside the Mathematics and Computer Building as part of the preparation for construction of the bridge link between the west side of the MC's third floor and the Student Life Centre. Plant Operations notes that vehicle traffic, including golf carts, will be restricted around the covered walkway.
