A new publication is out by Philippe Van Cappellen and colleagues from the Netherlands and Australia: "Model-Based Integration and Analysis of Biogeochemical and Isotopic Dynamics in Nitrate-Polluted Pyritic Aquifer" was published in Environmental Science and Technology on August 10, 2013.
This year the Ecohydrology Group sent six researchers to present their work at the annual Goldschmidt Conference (Aug 25-30, 2013) in Florence, Italy, organized by the European Association of Geochemistry and the Geochemical Society. Since 1994, the Goldschmidt has become the leading forum for presenting the latest geochemical research, attracting more than 3000 delegates from more than 60 countries worldwide.
Taylor Maavara and Severin Stojanovic, PhD students in the Ecohydrology Research Group, were both awarded an Ontario Graduate Scholarship for the 2013-2014 academic year. Congratulations!

Philippe Van Cappellen attended the opening ceremony of the China-Canada Three Gorges Reservoir Water Center in Chongqing, China. During the following “International Workshop on Innovative Monitoring and Prediction of Non-Point Source Pollution and Water Quality in the Three Gorges Reservoir”, he delivered an invited lecture entitled “Modeling nutrients and water quality in large dam reservoirs, with emphasis on the Three Gorges Reservoir”. The article highlighted the alarming quantity of "micro-plastics", small filaments and beads invisible to the naked eye, which have been found accumulating in major water bodies and oceans.
Dr. Philippe Van Cappellen and Dr. Ana Lima are teaching the urban ecohydrology module of the Erasmus Mundus Ecohydrology Summer School, which is being held at the Federal University of Espiríto Santo, Vitória, Brazil, from 10 June to 23 August, 2013.
"Arsenic Bioremediation by Biogenic Iron Oxides and Sulfides" was published on 10 May 2013 in Applied Environmental Microbiology. Authors include researchers from five countries.

RBC Foundation visited the Ecohydrology Labs yesterday as part of their announcement to donate $1.75 million in support of the Water Institute's new graduate studies program in Integrated Water Management (IWM). The funds will create 120 scholarships over the next eight years as well as underwrite high-profile program fellows (RBC Visiting Fellows) and an annual RBC Water Scholars Program student symposium.
