All UWaterloo Employees, including TAs, GAs, and sessional instructors, must complete a series of mandatory training workshops in order to work at the university. You must complete these workshops within two weeks of starting work at the university. These workshops are delivered online through UWaterloo LEARN and can be completed at your own pace. You can sign up for and complete these workshops before the term starts if you would like, or at any other time, provided they are completed within the first two weeks of your employment.
You are paid to take these workshops: the time you take to complete them is included in the 140 hours of your position under Buffer/Training in your Assignment of Duties form. Your completion of the workshops will be recorded in Workday.
The mandatory workshops are the following:
- WHMIS training – SO2017 (1 hour)
- Workplace Violence and Harassment Awareness – SO1081 (1 hour)
- Employee Safety Orientation – SO1001 (1 hour)
- Accessibility (AODA) Training (1.25 hours)
In addition to these mandatory workshops, the following optional workshop is also available: Supporting Student Mental Health - CTE2259 (2 hours). If you take this course, be sure to notify your course coordinator so it can be included within your hours.
