The following are people and resources that may be useful for both independent graduate instructors and graduate teaching assistants (TAs and GAs):
- The English Graduate Officer or the Graduate Advisor and Coordinator can answer any questions you have about the administration of your position (assignments, pay, disciplinary matters). You can contact them at english.grad@uwaterloo.ca, and you can find more information about the Graduate Officer on the English website's Contacts page.
- The GI Coordinator (for independent graduate instructors), the TA Coordinator (for Gradate Teaching Assistants, both TAs and GAs), or the Extended Learning Coordinator (for questions about online courses) can help with designing your course and answering any pedagogical questions you might have. See the English website's Contacts page for contact information (do a browser search for the position title).
- The Centre for Teaching Excellence's Faculty Liaison for Arts can offer advice on course design best practices, discuss teaching strategies, and arrange for teaching observations.
- The Writing and Communication Centre can offer support with designing writing assignments, with giving in-class writing workshops, and with strategies for supporting and grading student writing.
- The English Librarian can help with finding and reserving course materials and with training students to use library resources (look down the list for the English librarian)
