The following principles have guided the development of the recommendations
Safety First
Understand and prioritize the risks faced by trans and non-binary students and employees including physical, emotional and psychological threats. Actively understand and communicate the risks experienced by 2STNBGNC+ students and employees of being unwillingly outed, including non-consensual sharing of personal information (such as personal pronouns, gender assigned at birth, name assigned at birth, etc.).
Being community-informed
Recognize the challenges and understand the needs of trans and non-binary students and employees based on the knowledge and lived experiences of community members, including physical, medical and financial issues.
Collaborative action and mutual support
Collaborative action and mutual support are crucial for creating and sustaining safe and inclusive spaces for trans and non-binary students and employees.
Allocating Resources
Ensure adequate funding and resources are available to support 2STNBGNC+ and 2SLGBTQIA+ groups and activities and consider the long-term impact of enhancing or removing trans, non-binary and queer friendly services on campus.
Intersectionality
Consider the invisible barriers faced by 2STNBGNC+ students and employees who belong to two or more marginalized groups.
Trust
Understand the complexity of 2STNBGNC+ issues and trust people's lived experiences without prejudice.
