A large (30x30 feet), fully equipped combustion lab with 12 ft diameter natural draft fume hood and cross flow wind generation capabilities. Now decommissioned, for many years this lab was used for detailed investigations into the behaviour of 30 cm diameter liquid pool fires. The burner was mounted on a two-way traversing table to allow for measurement of fire properties as functions of radial position and height above the fuel surface. The experimental rig could accommodate conventional and laser based measurement systems to map temperature, velocity, species, soot and radiation distributions throughout the field. It was easily modified to examine medium-scale fire behaviour in a cross flow and/or with various floor, ground plane or corner configurations.
