Congratulations to Alexa Bennett on Passing Her Comprehensive Exam!

We are thrilled to announce that Alexa Bennett, a PhD student in the Department of Geography and Environmental Management at the University of Waterloo, has successfully passed her comprehensive exam! Alexa’s doctoral research examines the impact of water insecurity on maternal health and wellbeing in sub-Saharan Africa. She focuses on regions prone to water-related climate shocks, such as flooding and drought.

Alexa's academic background is extensive, holding a Master of Science in Global Health from McMaster University and a Bachelor of Education from McGill University.  She has also contributed significantly to several other research projects focused on water and health, including co-authoring the paper titled ‘Water Fetching and Musculoskeletal Health Across the Life Course in Sub-Saharan Africa: A Scoping Review,’ published in PLOS Global Public Health in September 2024.

Beyond her research endeavors, Alexa is actively involved in several water-related communities. She serves as Vice Chair (Outreach) of the SWIGS graduate society at the University of Waterloo and is the Regional Director (Ontario) of the International Water Association’s Young Water Professionals. She has engaged in several professional development opportunities this year, including chairing a workshop at the World Water Congress in Toronto and attending a Water Innovation Lab leadership retreat on the Siksika First Nation (Alberta).

Congratulations, and best wishes for your continued success in your PhD journey Alexa!
