Opportunities for current graduate students
The University of Waterloo offers multiple pathways for current students to take courses and visit other institutions.
- The Ontario Visiting Graduate Student (OVGS) program allows students to take course(s) at another university in Ontario.
- The Canadian University Graduate Transfer Agreement (CUGTA) allows students to take a course at another university in Canada that is outside of Ontario.
- The Canadian Graduate Student Research Mobility Agreement (CGSRMA) allows students to conduct research at another university in Canada.

Opportunities for external students
The University of Waterloo offers pathways for external graduate students to come to the University of Waterloo to conduct research or take courses.
- The International Visiting Graduate Student (IVGS) program allows students pursuing a graduate degree at an international institution to conduct research at the University of Waterloo under the supervision of a faculty member.
