The Kindred Credit Union Centre for Peace Advancement is a dynamic space on the University of Waterloo campus, home to peace-oriented innovators, and established organizations from the regions vibrant peacebuilding field. The common goal of advancing peace collaboratively and creatively is the lifeblood of the Centre for Peace Advancements unique working community. The Centre for Peace Advancement stands as a bridge between campus and community, academics and practice, and faith and justice.

Resurfacing: Mennonite Floor Patterns
Artist Margruite Krahn restores and re-imagines hand painted Mennonite house barn floor patterns from the turn of the 20th century. Her work engages with the contrast of home as a sanctuary and a place that holds conflict, alongside changing traditions and practices of beauty.

ESGTree raises the profile of sustainable finance in Canada
Grebel Peace Incubator start-up ESGTree played a key role in this year’s Together | Ensemble Conference that was held in Waterloo on May 28 and 29. Organized by Sustainable Development Solutions Network Canada, this national event aims to spark progress on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The conference brought together experts from universities, governments, and the private sector to explore three high-impact areas for sustainable development: Sustainable Finance, Future Cities & Housing, and AI & Emerging Tech for Eco-Innovation.
Fiona Li – Mapping Actionable Change
On May 27, Fiona Li earned the second-place prize at the Map the System Canada competition in Calgary, Alberta. As the winner of the University of Waterloo’s Map the System campus finals, Fiona’s achievement on the national stage not only brought awareness to the over-representation of Indigenous women in Canadian prisons, but it also highlighted how programs like Peace and Conflict Studies are crucial in furthering education on how to research, understand, and present these critical issues.
Welcoming Peace for All Canada to the Centre for Peace Advancement
This Kitchener-Waterloo initiative, founded by Ayiko Solomon, focuses on healing communities and promoting peaceful coexistence through education, conflict transformation, and social entrepreneurship. In joining the Grebel Peace Incubator, they aim to grow their grassroots efforts and enhance their impact.
