On March 28th, 2022 at 6:00 PM (EST), our first speaker event of the year will feature Mide Olatoye from Microsoft. The UW HFES Student Chapter welcomes back UW Alumni Mide Olatoye to give a talk about her experiences finding full-time work in user research after graduating from the SYDE MASc program.
On April 13th, 2022, at 5:00 PM (EST), our second speaker event of the year will feature Deepika Dixit from Intuitive Surgical. The UW HFES Student Chapter welcomes Deepika to talk about her work experience, education, on-the-job training, the importance of human factors engineering for successful product adoption, and understanding global disparities to build relevant solutions for local communities by thinking globally and acting locally. After her talk, we will have a Q&A period with Deepika.
On April 25th, 2022 at 4:00 PM (EST), our third speaker event of the year will feature Hannah Rusak-Gillrie from StarFish Medical. The UW HFES Student Chapter welcomes Hannah to give a talk about her background and work experience, as well as her role, responsibilities, and challenges as a HFUE team member in medical device product development. She will then discuss the importance of a cohesive HFUE approach to facilitate a successful regulatory submission. After her talk, we will have a Q&A period with Hannah.
On May 12th, 2022 at 4:00 PM (EST), our fifth speaker event of the year will feature Jingru Yan who works at Air Canada. The UW HFES Student Chapter welcomes Jingru for a casual chat about her background and work experience in human factors. On May 17th, 2022 at 10:00 AM (EST), our sixth speaker event of the year will feature Ryan Hilgers from Johnson & Johnson. The UW HFES Student Chapter welcomes Ryan to give a talk about his experience as a Staff Human Factors (HF) Engineer. After his talk, we will have a Q&A period with Ryan. On June 7th, 2022 at 4:00 PM (EST), our sixth speaker event of the year will feature Bradley Weaver, PhD who works at Emory Healthcare. The UW HFES Student Chapter welcomes Bradley to speak about his experience in graduate school, how he transitioned to a different domain, how he landed his current position as human factors engineer and research in healthcare, and what he does in his work now.
On June 16th, 2022 at 4:00 PM (EST), our seventh speaker event of the year will feature Sareen Kardjian from Healthcare Human Factors. The UW HFES Student Chapter welcomes Sareen to give a talk about her academic and professional experiences in human factors. After her talk, we will have a Q&A period with Sareen. On June 24th, 2022 at 4:00 PM (EST), our eighth speaker event of the year will feature Dustin Weiler, PhD. The UW HFES Student Chapter welcomes Dustin to give a talk about his perceived differences between industry and academic positions/careers, suggestions on preparing for interviews in the field, and certain job search strategies that he found helpful as he transitioned from a PhD student to industry engineer. After his talk, we will have a Q&A period with Dustin.
On July 20th, 2022 at 4:00 PM (EST), our ninth speaker event of the year will feature Dr. Jeremy Schwark from Google. The UW HFES Student Chapter welcomes Dr. Schwark to give a talk about his career journey, including the transition from graduate school to industry, considerations for different career paths, and suggestions for how students can best prepare for the job market.
