The Equity Office and the FAUW Equity Committee have partnered in the development of a live and interactive version of the Equitable Recruitment and Selection training. Ujima Black History Month 2022 at the University of Waterloo is a collaborative initiative by faculty and staff from the Office of Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Anti-racism (EDI-R), the departments of English and History, and the Dean of Arts Office. Our goal is to celebrate Black history in the campus community and beyond, and to celebrate these histories in February and beyond — any time is the right time for celebration and actions.
Who is Canadian? Why are racialized individuals constantly othered and made to feel we don’t belong? This workshop is for racialized students who are grieving the racism in the world while investigating our own internalized racism.
The purpose of the workshop is to help students, faculty and staff understand historical and present-day issues that impact trans and non-binary Black & racialized identities, debunk and de-mystify conversations around trans inclusion, and generate discussion on accountability frameworks and best practices to better affirm trans identities
