What is happening? A certificate for Duo, the University’s two-factor authentication (2FA) provider, will be updated by the vendor. This change will require Android and iOS users to update the Duo Mobile app to receive the new certificate. Beginning Monday, January 12, University employees and students may receive a notification when using Duo Mobile prompting them to update the Duo Mobile app.
What is the impact? Unsupported mobile OS versions will not be able to update Duo Mobile to the latest versions, which will prevent those individuals from authenticating to and accessing many central University services.
- Duo Mobile should update automatically via the iOS App Store or Google Play Store on supported mobile OS versions.
- Android 11 is the minimum supported version for Duo Mobile.
- Employees using a non-supported Android OS can request a Yubikey at no charge.
- Students using a non-supported Android OS can use the SMS option.
- Please review detailed information about Android or iOS supported versions.
When must I update the Duo Mobile app? Update by Monday, February 2, 2026, to ensure your access to University 2FA-supported systems are not interrupted.
