Mike Gaspic

Mike plays a key leadership role in Waterloo’s university-wide IT transformation. His work focuses on developing a more integrated and collaborative operating model, strengthening accountability and decision-making, harmonizing services, and ensuring that institutional capabilities remain responsive to the distinct needs of faculties and academic support units. He also provides leadership for major enterprise-systems initiatives and organizational change across the University’s IT community.

Before his appointment as Deputy CIO in May 2026, Mike served as Director of Information Systems, where he led a broad portfolio that included enterprise and departmental applications, data and analytics, systems development, and web platforms. He joined Waterloo in 2003 as a Computer Administrator in the Registrar’s Office and moved to Information Systems & Technology in 2010. Throughout his Waterloo career, he has held progressively senior roles as a Business Analyst, Project Manager, Manager, and Director.

Before joining Waterloo, Mike worked as an IT consultant in the public sector. He holds a Bachelor of Arts Honours from York University and a Master of Arts from Eastern Illinois University.
