SDGs

Waterloo International and the Waterloo Institute for Sustainable Energy are collaborating to lead a session on higher education’s contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at Going Global 2021, one of the world’s foremost conferences for leaders in international education.  For the session, Waterloo will be joined by partners from three continents.

Convened by the British Council, Going Global 2021 will meet, virtually, between 15 and 17 June 2021 to explore the theme, ‘Reimagining international tertiary education for a post-pandemic world’.  The conference’s 2019 edition brought together close to 1,000 leaders from more than 85 countries.

Waterloo’s session, entitled ‘Practical tools for leaders to better engage with SDGs’, examines the role that higher education can play in promoting, advancing, and achieving the SDGs.  Examples from a variety of experiences, including teaching curricula, research projects, and local and international collaborations, will be presented by four panelists. The panelists are members of the Affordable Energy for Humanity initiative, a global consortium to promote SDG7 (Affordable and Clean Energy) facilitated by the Waterloo Institute for Sustainable Energy.

  • Farzana Karim-Haji, director, University Partnerships, Aga Khan University (Pakistan)
  • Fred McBagonluri, president and provost, Academic City University College (Ghana)
