I had an excellent trip to East Asia last week, where I had the opportunity to meet with university leaders, government officials, and others in both Japan and South Korea. It is clear to me that the University of Waterloo is well-positioned to grow meaningful engagement with East Asian partners across a range of research, innovation, learning, and community activities for impact.

Waterloo welcomed members of a French delegation to campus on April 25th to sign a new MOU with the National Institute for Research in Digital Science and Technology (INRIA). The MOU outlines a new framework for expanding research collaboration between the University of Waterloo and France.

The University of Waterloo welcomes the Indonesian International Student Mobility Awards (IISMA) 2022 recipients to campus. It is the second successful year of this student mobility program and with it brings 15 talented Indonesian students to our campus community.

We were delighted to have an article in the Tuesday, 21 September 2021 edition of the Daily Bulletin. The article, which can be found here, invites the Waterloo community to contact us as they engage in International Education Week (15-19 November 2021).  Thank you, Daily Bulletin, for this opportunity!  We look forward to celebrating international education with campus partners.

Waterloo International welcomes the return of Ian Rowlands, PhD, associate vice-president, International.

Dr. Rowlands’ scholarly activities during his 2020 sabbatical focused on energy sustainability and internationalization in higher education; for the latter part of this work, he had an affiliation with the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) as a Special Advisor.

International Week 2020 is a collaborative effort, organized by a wide array of departments, units and student groups at the University of Waterloo, with coordination by Waterloo International. We hope you were able to attend some of the events, learn from these experiences or share some of your activities with others and that you enjoyed participating in these events!

Thanks to everyone who has participated in International Week 2020 (IW) so far this week. To date, numerous campus partners from across the University of Waterloo have hosted events that highlight the value of multilingualism and intercultural understanding in today’s globalized world and there are many more events planned for the rest of the week.
