MPACS Course Taking the Map the System Challenge

Thursday, October 31, 2019

PACS 620 Thinking and Working Politically, a graduate-level, special topics course, offered in the upcoming Winter 2020 term, will have students take on the Map the System challenge. Taught by Paul Heidebrecht, director of the Kindred Credit Union Centre for Peace Advancement (CPA), the course teaches the practice of peace-related advocacy in Canadian and multi-lateral contexts.

Map the System, created and hosted globally by Oxford University and the Skoll Centre for Social Entrepreneurship, is a systems thinking competition that challenges students to focus on a problem domain rather than generating solutions. The CPA is hosting UWaterloo's campus chapter of this global challenge.

Focusing on a problem of their choosing, students who take PACS 620 will have the opportunity to submit their final project to the challenge, which involves:

  • A chance to win cash prizes at a UWaterloo-wide competition
  • Winners going on to compete in Canadian finals in Montreal (all expenses paid)
  • Top two Canadian teams compete at Oxford University (all expenses paid)
