Vlad Paserin, PhD, P. Phys. is currently a Research Associate and Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering at the University of Waterloo.

He holds PhD (Physics) and MASc (Management Science) degrees from University of Waterloo and is a member of the Canadian Association of Physicists. He is the author of several patents and publications in the area of metal foams, chemical vapor deposition and nanomaterials.  His PhD thesis, completed in 2009, describes the laboratory evaluation of a laser-driven chemical vapor deposition approach to metal deposition onto 3-D substrates, a form of metal additive manufacturing. Prior to coming to Waterloo in 2018, he spent 26 years working for Inco (Vale) Limited on vapometallurgy of nickel and iron, and 3 years working on water-atomized metal powder research at Rio Tinto Metal Powders in Sorel-Tracy, Quebec. Vlad’s previous roles at the University of Waterloo include Managing Director, Multi-Scale Additive Manufacturing group (2018-20) and Research Associate, Centre for Advanced Materials Joining (2020-21).
